The Barber
Mitchell Jenks
Growing up just outside Belding, Mitchell would sit on an old cracker tin in his grandma’s kitchen for the haircuts she would give him. After stepping into a Turkish barber shop for the first time while living in Scotland, he could envision himself a barber.
Pairing his lifelong interest in antiques and design with a recent interest in barbering led him to open Sailor & Sipper—a space for great hair, community building and personal connection.
Mitchell is the third generation in his family to work with hair—his grandmother & great grandmother owned a salon in Smyrna. He graduated from Lansing Barber School in the spring of 2021, and opened Sailor & Sipper in October 2021.
